LIVING IN THE WILD Creative Weekends 2020

Posted in Te Wahi Ora Events

Te Wahi Ora Women’s Retreat invites you to join us in a
WILD WEATHER Creative Weekend

These weekends were so successful last year we are offering extra dates in 2020!
3 – 5 July
17-19 July
21-23 August
4 – 6 September
18-20 September

These special weekends will include two trained facilitators. We received a grant from the Creative Therapists Association of Aotearoa and the good news is there will be no extra charge for the Living in the Wild Creative Weekends facilitated program.

Some of the principles we are working with:

Australian neuroscientist, Dr Sarah McKay’s book “The Women’s Brain Book” is a fascinating read. She writes …..

“Over millennia, Mother Nature equipped us to survive and thrive in the wild”.

Well, Piha is wild in winter! As wild as some of our days or experiences in daily life!

Dr Sarah continues, “Our brains evolved such that from womb to the tomb we’re required:

“To move” …brave Piha’s Wild Weather for walks between showers or enjoy the shelter of bush walks!

“To eat well” …You’ll enjoy Te Wahi Ora’s scrumptious lunches and dinners around the fire; breakfast in bed.

“To sleep” ….Whenever required for two whole days – day or night, hit that pillow in your private room!

“To be immersed in nature”…Blow along the beach or walk into the gentle bush. To feel at One with the elements.

“To avoid stress” …Come and discover what that feels like for two whole days? Be inspired to create even more than “two whole days” stress free.   A lifetime aim?

“To love & befriend” …Yourself to start with! But find the power of the companionship of supportive women.

“To seek meaning” …. Often the missing ingredient in busy lives but let’s explore how this ‘meaning’ reveals itself in special ways, during our WILD weekend and our often, WILD lives.

(…. And, says Dr Sarah McKay, these principles are followed by the world’s longest living people)

LIVING IN THE WILD Creative Weekend PROGRAMME:

FRIDAY NIGHT
6pm.    DINNER
After dinner we’ll relax beside the fire in the lounge, introduce ourselves and the Living in the Wild weekend.

SATURDAY
9:30am  INTRODUCTION

A 30 minute introduction into the WILD WEATHER likely to be discovered on the beach, cliffs and bush around Piha, comparing the outdoors with the steaming coffee at Piha’s cosy Café!

A brief encouragement to explore our Wild surrounds to ‘capture’ the outward experience:  eg a photo, drawing, poem, symbol, story, metaphor etc.

Also, encouragement to consider ‘capturing’ something of your inward experience: ie what effect does this weather have on me?   What do I gain or lose? Was part of me is hesitant or grows stronger? And why?

WE THEN GO AND DO WHATEVER WE FEEL LIKE DOING!

12:30pm    LUNCH

MORE TIME TO GO AND DO WHATEVER WE FEEL LIKE DOING!

5pm Meet in the Lounge by the fire for drinks and nibbles to discuss our day and any outer and inner discoveries you may want to share.

6pm DINNER – fireside chat – off to that cosy bed for a long winter’s sleep.

SUNDAY
9:30am We gather again for introduction to the day. We disperse to further explore externally and/or internally all that awaits us in the day!

1pm LUNCH. Final sharing of the reflections/experiences/thoughts/images that have inspired, challenged and/or encouraged us, and are ours for transforming our lives and our world!

2:30pm  DEPART: You will take a little piece of Piha magic home with you as you are more ready to enjoy the transformative power of nature, of different seasons, and different weathers in our daily programmes with family, colleagues and friends. Afterall, Piha isn’t the only place where we live in the WILD!
